Miriam Gordon (Britt Lower) is a librarian at a downtown public library, oppressed by her grief over the death of her father. Together with her colleagues, the abrasive friend Susu (Sook-Yin Lee) and their watchful manager Irene (Jean Yoon), the librarians work on the front lines among marginalized members of the public who find refuge in the library. Over her lunch breaks in the park, Miriam meets and begins a romance with Janko (Tom Mercier), a Slovenian immigrant who opens her up to new possibilities.
