Toxic Masculinity: Melt Movies

The Toxic Masculinity film series explores the intersection of gender dynamics, power structures, and societal expectations through the lens of cult cinema. By curating films where guy’s faces melt we aim to provoke discourse on the often-overlooked aspects of masculinity. These films, known for their graphic imagery and gallows humour, are also oozing with critique of male power structures and male vulnerability. We aim to show a series of these films to gross out audiences and also provide a platform to examine the extreme consequences of toxic masculinity on both individual and societal levels. Through this series, we invite audiences to engage in a thought-provoking exploration of gender identity, vulnerability, and the pervasive impact of patriarchal norms in contemporary culture.

About the Programmer:

Ryan Stewart is a consultant and movie buff living in Edmonton. When he’s not working on engineering projects, he’s busy annoying his coworkers with B-movie recommendations that are definitely not office-friendly. Eager to share his questionable tastes with the greater Edmonton area, Ryan is especially thankful to his wife for putting up with his love of scary movies.
