Fear the Network

1995 saw the rise of the World Wide Web and, therefore, the Internet burst into popular consciousness with the release of browsers and Windows 95. Given that we are 30 years from that time, this retrospective will highlight the network techno thrillers released in that same year. Before network culture become THE culture, relive films that exposed relevant and in retrospect, completely real fears about the coming computer society.

 

About the Programmer: Eric Kaltman is an Assistant Professor of Media and Technology Studies and History at the University of Alberta where he researches the preservation of video games and software (shft.group). He is also really into all films great and small, and can be found frequently using his Silver Screen pass or perusing the Lobby’s video collections.
