Cinematic Portraiture: In Their Own Words

Imagine listening to someone with a totally different lived experience from you for 100 minutes. What would you notice and learn, not just about them, but about yourself? These documentaries give their unconventional subjects the reigns to tell their stories in their own voice. You are invited to reckon with the many facets of a person through the filmmaker’s pointed distillation of their essence, similar to looking at the Mona Lisa, American Gothic, or any of Van Gogh’s self portraits. Look down the rabbit hole of a life lived and see what sticks.
