A GUIDE TO INNER LIGHT

A GUIDE TO INNER LIGHT

Artist Statement

A GUIDE TO INNER LIGHT is a solo photography exhibition by Canadian media artist Mark Templeton. The series features a collection of Risograph prints, constructed from a discarded box of slides and 1970s and 80s meditation cassettes discovered in a library.

In this body of work, Templeton explores the “bridge of imaginary light” between the ears and the eyes. As noted by photographer Mike Slack:

“Somewhere in a dark room a bright cone of photons connects a slide projector to a wall… One thought overtakes another as the carousel clicks forward, shuffles… We hear the inner light before we see it. The ears tell the eyes where to look, and the eyes look inward.”

By using the Risograph process, Templeton captures the “pink hue of mystery” inherent in these forgotten histories. The result is a series of images that feel like visions of a recent past, filtered through the dust motes and incandescent glow of a slide projector’s beam.

Originally published in 2026 as a photobook and limited-edition cassette under his Rev. LV moniker, this exhibition presents the visual core of Templeton’s latest project, inviting the viewer to puzzle together a fantasy from the remnants of a celluloid history.
