Artist Statement

As light casts shadows, water distributes pigment and earth leaves its traces across a substrate. Soon the skeletal appears.

See-which is about setting up a surface to capture ephemeral forms. Canvas is treated as a textile, dyed with flowers, Sumi drawing ink, compost, crab apple slices, synthetic dyes and acrylic ink stains. The sheets were hung loosely on the stretchers, where ink pooled in the creases. Their surfaces absorbed histories, thus containing their presence.

Accompanying these paintings is a stop-motion animation and a display case of small-scale works from handmade paper.
